Default Odometer doesnt work

Hey all,

Recently I purchased I 1990 Dodge Dynasty, and the odometer doesnt work at all. The speedometer works alright, but the odometer stays at the same mileage that was on the car when I bought it. The trip odometer doesnt work either.

Any Ideas?

Sounds like something is wrong with/broken inside the gauge.

Sounds like your speed sensor or ABS sensor on the rear.

Or maybe someone pulled the plug on it so the mileage wouldnt increase for resale.

Well,

I thought about the bad speed sensor, or it was unplugged to stop the mileage from going higher, but it's an electronic speedo, so if the speed sensor was bad, or anything was unplugged, then my speedo wouldn't read. Besides, my car was sold with 176,763 miles on it with no odometer descrepency, so increased mileage wouldn't matter.

Thanx for the tips though.

That is why I think it's in the gauge itself.

Yeah, I agree with you on that.

While I was at the junk yard yesturday getting the BCM, I went ahead and grabbed a speedo for my car. The mileage might be off, but who cares? I just need the odometer so I can check to see what kind of gas mileage my car is getting, especially since it's running rich big time.

OK all,

I was finally able to replace the speedometer in my car, and that fixed the problem. What I actually did was take the old speedo and replace the speedo drive motor. Once I did hat I put the speedo back in the car and sure enough I had a working odometer.

Thanx for everyone's help on this problem. With a forum like this, my car will be inthe best condition it probably has been in for a long time.
