Default Starting problem 02, 3500 Ram Van

Engine Cranks but it will not start. If I rotate the Distributer 90othe engine starts if accelerator is held near full open, but only runs at very low idle.It will not accelerate. After about one minuite of feathering the throttle a pitch change can be heard. I rotate the distributer back to its normal position, and the engine runs fine, and will restart all day. One other note. This seems to happen when there is rain or very foggy weather overnight.

What is the engine size? I have information on the 2000 3500, don't know if it is the same for 02. I did look at a parts book for the distributor pick-up assembly for the 02. That appears to be a camshaft position sensor, three wires, ref voltage --ground-- signal. You can check those circuits with the engine cranking.

With the distributor in the normal location, when you crank it, do you have spark at the plugs and injector pulse?

Are there any codes? Some of the national brand autostores will check codes for free. I'd check the camshaft position sensorfirst, they may call it a pick-up assembly. The parts book I looked at, shows a three wire connector, that's a hall switch.

This is a 5.9L, and yes I have very good spark at the plugs. I also have plenty of fuel. There seems to be a sensor that is telling the ECM that the engine is hot when it is cold.

This van has not been worked on for the last 3000 miles. That was when I bought it. There are no codes.

can you look at scan data on your code reader? If you can look at your temp sensor and see what it says. It really doesn't make much sense that you have to adjust your dist. to make your van start. Also check your crank sensor on scan data to if you can.

My scanner won't give me scan data.
