My son has a 1980 Dodge Aspen Slant Six with approximately 170,000 miles. He got it about 600 miles ago and had the oil changed then. The oil now is still black as sin (just like it was before the first change). There is a product called "Motor Flush" which you put in, run the car ten minutes and then change the oil and filter. The product is supposed to remove sludge and contaminants. I'm wondering if we should use it. My concern is that with so many miles on the motor that using a product like this might compromise the aged seals. DOes anyone have suggestions? Thanks.
when i worked as a tech, the stuff that we sold like that motor flush actually claimed to freshen up the seals..i believe slick 50 made it...maybe go somewhere that sells it and find something similar that specifically says for higher mileage engines?
You could always dump in a quart of transmission fluid and drive it for a few days then change it again.
Ya ain't gonna hurt that old slant no matter what you do!
If the sludge is thick, it's gonna take a bit o' work to get it out.
