I don't think you can get the codes from the newer cars this way. You have to have a reader. I think that the only thing that happens when you cycle the key is a diagnostic on the instrument cluster. Sorry.
i know that some of the Big parts stores in my area have the OBDII readers, like hand held ones, that are brand specific, and they arent all that expensive, but ive never met anyone who owns one, so i dont know how good or bad they are.
wow....i wish that was the case here...if it is, it has soemhow gotten by me...even when i worked at monro, i charged people 75 bucks just to scan OBDI or II..are those some parts chains that are up here too?
OK I got the read. All you have to do is Turn the key 3 times in how aver many secs and it displays the code in the odometer.
The code was P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1) which I dont understand. Can anyone explain this?
I am assuming that you have 2 cats, one for each side of the motor. Being a new truck i would have to say thats its unlikely that the cat itself would be bad. I would go for an 02 sensors or loose wire. The best thing to do is to bring it to the dealership, I am sure its still under warenty.
