Default Power Steering question

New to this forum.
2000 Neon ES 75k miles, no codes, no leaks, runs and idles fine.

Observation: W/O warning the steering gets real hard to turn, loss of "power steering effect". fluid level normal, no sounds/noises.

Pump bad?

Common or uncommon problem with this year and model?

All recalls have been addressed. Haven't looked at all the TSB's yet.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Neones

Default RE: Power Steering question

moe in wichita
this may not be it but. one time my son had a honda and it had trouble like yours. what happened was the oil pump had a slightly
worn shaft seal and it would suck air into the pump, air doesnt work in a steering box. it is very rare for a pump to suck air in, most of the time a leeking seal will let fulid out. but it can rarely let air in.
