How do i get to the air conditioning thats under the dash . How do
i get into the air box on a 99 dodge ram. I believe the line is leaking inside the air box as there are no leaks in the engine compartment. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Default RE: air conditioning repair

Your Evaporative Core may be leaking if you cannot keep coolant in your system, which is located under your dashboard. Look on the passenger side firewall in the engine compartment, kinda low you will seea small round black pvc tube sticking out, whichis the drip line from your heater box. Both the Evap core and heater core are located inside the heater box. If you see coolant leaking from this tube your evap core is shot. I had this happen to me and the shop wanted $950 to replace a $50 dollar evap core, mostly because its labor intensive. I did the repair myself, which wasn't as easy as I had hoped, non the less I saved alot of money. You have to remove the heater box completely toreplace the core, which means the dash has to come out, but not completely out, you don't want to unplug the wiring harness. Iended up having to strap up one end around the passernger side handle strap on the inside roof, then you pull the box out through the passenger side. All in all I think i spent around $175 for the part, re-charge, and supplies. I would highly reccommend buying a detailed repair manual with pictures that can guide you as well. GoodLuck.
