i have had the same problem for 8 months now. i've replaced cat converter, all 4 o2 sensors,TPS,engine coolant sen.,IAC, IAT, MAP, spark plugs & wires numerous times, battery, had injectors checked and cleaned, dis and rotor, crank sen., cam sen., i don t know what else i've done!!! had it at dealer and they said they didn't find anything rong. But it still keeps doing it , the only thing i havent done is replace fuel pump or evep. If any1 figures it out let me know. Also does your trucks keep throwing a P300-P0306 code

I erased the codes in hopes of getting something new. The only code I get now is the code stating the battery was disconnected recently. Nothing else. Even after 20 miles of great drive and the 20 mile limp home, I still don't get any codes. Strange, very strange. Anybody want a truck???

if you have/decide to change out the fuel pump , i've heard it's easier to take the bed off instead of draining the tank and dropping it out. Theres only 4 bolts holding the bed on i believe, so it shouldn't be too hard to get it.

Dropping the tank is MUCH easier than removing the bed Just unbolt the filler neck and the two straps and lower it down with a jack [8D] There's actually a write-up in the HOW-TO forum for this.

And an easy way to drain the tank (if your pump is WEAK but not dead) is to jump the fuel pump relay and remove the schrader valve from the fuel rail. Put a piece of hose on it and let the pump do the work for you. Just make sure you have enough gas cans to get the tank down to a lighter level

As far as the problem in the thread (well, the last guy anyway), it sounds like your fuel pump is overheating.

Rodcad,
It sounds like you are at your witts end with this. It looks like you've replaced nearly every sensor in that engine. Just one thing-----have you tried adding a gasoline dehydrator to the fuel? It almost sounds like you have a bunch of water rolling around in the bottom of the tank. Just the right spot, and it gets sucked up. Before you pull the tank, to check the pump, try this. Fill your tank to the half tank area, then add one can of Sea Foam gas treatment, run the tank to near empty, do it again. See if that handles it. As far as getting an extension hose for the fuel pressure check, use an air conditioning guage manifold hose---it comes on a guage set to check pressures for a/c. get a 1/8" to 1/4" flare adapter for guage, put it all together and you're set. You can easily check the regulator by removing and plugging the vacuum hose to the regulator which will cause the fuel pressure to jump to full pressure, this validates the pump without removal from the tank. What leads me to believe the water is the fact that you mentioned water droplets around the gas cap-----sounds like LOTS of water to me.

UPDATE of previous post
I am experiencing an intermittent problem with sudden loss of power and bogging down. with my 95’ Ram 1500 (318 ) at freeway speeds engine suddenly loses power and runs terribly and will run only with minimum throttle and with too much throttle will backfire and possibly die after I pull over and wait five to ten minutes engine will usually run perfectly again this problem can happen after five miles or five hundred in hot or cold weather. I do not smell any gas fumes
In fact I first had this problem in Florida and it resolved itself then drove to California with no problem now problem is back I have replaced EGR and control solenoid (found it melted due to contact with exhaust system), cat converter, temp sender, and a few other sending units checked for exhaust obstructions. I also noticed that there seems to be a vacuum in the fuel tank when the problem occurs if I loosen fuel cap I hear air rushing in past the cap? the cap passed the cal smog test but I have replaced it with a new Stant replacement still get vacuum or possibly pressure but it sounds like a vacuum is this normal could a vacuum be forming in the tank and causing the fuel pump to be slowed or stopped? Maybe that would explain the intermittent problem at freeway speeds? And now just replaced Evap purge solenoid but problem remains there are no trouble codes being generated. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated since my girlfriend[8D] lives around 300 miles away and this could happen a couple times a trip! One of you guys must have an idea.
Bob (Rocdad)
