First off I am new to this site, Just got rid of a ford ranger and got a new 05 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 4.7L V-8 and Love it. The truck didnt come with the frame mount trailer hitch reciever. My question is I have a 6x10 Trailer that I haul 2 Sport Quads around on and was wondering if It would hurt to just put a Ball on the bumper. I have also seen the Under the bumper recievers- any opinions on those??? I just wanna make sure that the bumper of the truck just doesnt fall off. I mean the bumper says it can handle 500lb tongue weight and 5000lb trailer weight, Is this true??? Thanks

 

SHould be. I don't know why they would put that there if it wasn't true.

 

I believe the bumper is equivelant to a class III hitch, it should handle it no problem just as todd mentioned

 

You can buy a factory receiver for $109.00 (part# 82207911) and install it your self in less than 1 hour.

 

You wont have any problems with what you want to do
