Sorry Dude, i wasnt sure if i did it correctly.
i need to change the rod in the motor cause it went out and the places where ive taken it so far they have told me to just change out the engine. i was thinking they just wanted to make more $$$ by changing the engine, so iwas hoping there was a different way.
thanks for letting me know i posted that question allready cause i couldnt find it posted anywhere.

3-4" hole? WOW!! i wonder if i can just remove the pan?
yeah its not covered under warranty im over 36,000 miles. the shops ive taken it to have said "it was the rod" but havent opened it up to see if it was a rod and a friend told me it might be a bearing. to remove the whole oil pan and i would be able to see the shaft and the rods.

The engine is starting to sound like a good option to me. Especially since you haven't changed to oil.

On the 4.7 you can see the rods by removing the oil pan, but it does not have traditional bearing caps. It has what is called a bed plate. The bed plate is bolted to the block, and doesn't really like to come apart. It actually looks like it is part of the block. It has at least 12 bolts that I remember, plus its sealed with rtv gasket material. If you need a rod you gotta go through the head. If its just bearings its still going to be a very expensive repair. And not one I would recommend a do it yourself either. The 4.7 is one of the best motors chrysler makes right now, but you have treat it right!

thanks for your input joe. i think i'll just have to put in a new motor, it sounds like its a lot of work after all and something i wont be able to to by my self...

How many miles are on the engine and what year is it. Motors don't come cheap. If it's worth saving I'd save it. Even if it needs a valve job and new rings and bearings. If it does.
