Heard "Whistling Sound" briefly after going over bump.
Greetings,
I hope the collective genius of these forums can solve and hopefully put my mind at ease...
I recently purchased a '99 Dodge Avenger Sport with only 54000 miles and one owner.
The owner took good care of the car and always had it serviced at the dealership where she bought it new. A VIN check confirmed everything she said.
It only had one or two minor service done to it, a replaced computer chip a few months after she purchased it, and a broken handle replacement 2 years later.
I've owned it for about a month now and have had no problems untill today as I was driving home from work.
I was traveling at about 65mph when I went over a small bump or pothole, it was small enough that I didn't see it and bearly felt it.
As soon an the back wheels went over it, I heard a loud treble humming/whistling sound "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!" it seemed to be coming from the right rear wheel, but I could be wrong. As I applied the breaks and they were as responsive as ever, but it went from a "OOOOOOO!!!" to an "AAAAAAA!!!" and back to "OOOO!!!" as I released the break and accelerated.
I traveled about 1\8 mile to the nearest gas station and slowed down to pull in.
The sound remained untill I had slowed to about 5mph and breaked to a stop. I put it in park and hopped out to check for damage. There was nothing visible, so I climbed back in and cautiously pulled back onto the road.
I didn't hear it again, I even accelerated to 75MPH on a flat stretch of highway and gradualy applied the breaks to see if it was a stuck break shoe.
The car still seems to be aligned and balanced as it was before this noise. I thought it might have something to do with a fuel pump but the guage seemed fine and the car ran fine. Nothing seems to be wrong.
This is probably the strangest story anyone has heard, but I hope somebody knows for sure what's going on here.
Thanks for your time,
~Will

Hmmm, that's what I was thinking when I said "break shoe".
Is this common on Avengers? I don't think I even hit the breaks untill the sound started, weird eh? ...what would cause it to do that?
I drove it again since my first post and it seems to be behaving it's self.
I'll be taking it to the dealership next friday to get a copy of it's past service records and have' em take a look under the chassis.

I would not worry too much about it if it was the only time you heard it, you could have kicked somethng into the wheel well and it was making the noise and then fell out.
