transmission problems
I have a 99 Dodge Ram 1500 360 4x4. The tranny shifts in to overdrive at 40 mph. From 40 to 80 mph.......... It will kick in and out of overdrive or lockup one of the two. When this happens The rpms will move up 200 to 500 rpms . Then back to where the rpms were. This is happening with cruise control is off or on. When holding a constant speed. It happens just about every time I hit bumps in the road. It does not do this if I' m driving agressive. That don't help my 10 miles per gallon I get. Also happens with overdrive is on or off. The tranny shifts in to all gears great. I've had this dodge for two months. Didn't notices this at first problem is getting worse somedays it happens alot other days a couple times or not at all. thinking about putting it down .................................................. ............. thanks cleaning gun.......

RE: transmission problems
You may have a problem with the tps or brake switch. I have seen several instances these sensors malfunctioning will cause a torque converter to cycle in and out of lock-up. Try driving until you feel the trans. in OD and the converter locked, then press the brake pedal just enough to feel the engine change rpm. If it feels like the same shift you have been feeling, then thats the converter. The torque converter unlocks when the brake pedal is pressed or when tps voltage increases. If you have a scan tool available that has sensor readings, you need to monitor them while driving and see what is changing. If no diagnostic tool is available and you want to guess, than I would start with the tps, it is generally more likely to cause this problem. Sorry for the long post, hope this helps.

RE: transmission problems
i have been having kinda the same problem. my trucks shifts all the time up hill down hill no hills at all. sometime it wont even shift to the overdrive gear unless i let off the gas and then hit it again then it shifts cpl sec min later it does it again. sometimes it will rev to 4000rpms before it shifts. I do have 35" tires and a 4"lift but would that make a difference in my shifting? what is the TPS could that be my problem as well? need help please. thanks

RE: transmission problems
I have a 96 1500 5.2 and am having issues where the trans feels like it's not going to shift and then revs up by itself real quick to about 4000 rpm then shifts back to where it supposed to be. Could this be the throttle position sensor too? Very spasmadic doesn't happen all the time.
