LAST 5.9L 360s
ORIGINAL: Rovell
I was just wondering what the difference is between the 90s model 360s and the last ones that they made for a few of the '03 models.
Thanks.

You are in luck. I was (still am at heart) a truck guy before I bought the srt-4. But you should have this thread moved. There were some differences to the cast exhaust manifolds over the last 10 years. Some were better than others. As I'm sure you know the 5.9L went to MPFI in 1995 I think, maybe '94. Before that they used T-body injection. But the last year 360's (2003 model year) all received the same size piston from the factory. If you look down the side of your block above the starter area you should see four letters hand writen on both the drivers & passenger sides. These letters indicate the one of four pistons sizes. Letter A-D, until late 2002 and all of 2003 when they put only letter 'C' in the blocks. Seems the last year engines ran better because of it. Oh ya, they all got roller cams & lifters about 1992 as well. The sensors, injectors and wiring changed every few years also, but thats about it.
70-84 Flat Tappet blocks.
85-91 Roller Cam blocks.
88.5 Thottle Body injection introduced.
89-91 Swirl Port Heads used.
92-03 Magnum heads with Multiport.
The 85-03 blocks are basically the same, accept when they switch to the magnum heads they stopped drilling the oil passage for the rocker arm shaft.
The best blocks are cast "AAQA" on the front where the timing cover is. That indicates a high nickle content.
