Amsoil fans claim K&N filters don't seal as well as theirs do, hence the dirty stuff getting inside. K&N sells a sealing grease for those applications, although in all honesty, I've never seen a reason to use it........
It wasn't a "claim", it was in fact an observation. The lip or sealing edge on my K&N was thinner than that of my Flowzair. Amsoil recently updated their filter lines to address this specific problem. My Flowzair on my Olds had a sealing edge that was so thick, it was difficult to screw the stock box back together.

What happened in my case (with the K&N) was the lack of a "tight seal" caused a dust leak on the sealing edge. Again not a claim just my personal experience.

Personally, I think it's a case of the difference between apples and oranges. K&N is a filter company. They design their filters to have max air flow and filter out a certain level of particles. Their oil filters filter out even a smaller size of particle... Amsoil is a muti-product line company that uses established filter design and a well-known filtering method. Both filtering methods have their pluses and minuses.
Amsoil's filters are slightly more difficult to clean.

Amsoil makes an EXCELLENT motor oil, but I have reservations about buying a filter from a company that also sells vitamins and other products in a MLM operation...Sorry Kale and Bill, I am NOT slamming the Amsoil product line, I just can't put certain items sold there on the same level as race proven items that are the make-or-break items for a company that has been around for many years. I have bought and will continue to buy, Amsoil lubrication products, but my FEELING is that perhaps Amsoil has gotten a bit too diverse in an attempt to be too many things to too many people.
I understand your point about specialization (K&N) versus multi-lines (Amsoil). Personally, their is alot of money to be made on the vitamin and organic fertilizer line. I love their vitamins and enzymes, and my yard has never been greener since I started using their fertlizer.

The reasoning behind the vitamin line was originally to help AJ's dealers stay healthy as well as another item to profit from. I know of dealers who make the majority of their income on the vitamin line. I also know of dealers that have made themselves rich selling fertilzer. It is nothing more than additional methods to make money.

If you really want to know, "male power" is a very impressive supplement. I have numerous happy like the "enzyte commercial guy" customers.

Eventually, oil will be obsolete, yards will still need fertilizer, and people will still want to take vitamins. Amsoil's rational may be "visionary" rather than too diverse. You have to consider the fact that Amsoil's extended drain interval reduces the constant demand for repeat oil changes. This fact requires other items to sell during the downtime. It is a business to make money. They have been succesful for the past 30 years.

I will, as always, seek your advice on any oil or lubrication related matter and consider you both as friends...God Bless the USA and our freedom to express our opinions!!!![sm=smiley16.gif]

No harm done, I respect your opinion. I started out as a customer just like you and wanted to find a side business (I have a stay at home wife and 2 yr old) . I was turned off by Amway/Quixtar as well as Equinox. Amsoil is the only business that I have done part time( 1 to 2 hours per day) that has given me a monthly check. In 1 year, I have built a decent business, with close to 40 "downline" that I collect commissions from.

I can't complain, I like to help Kale, he is a good guy.

We are indeed brothers, and im the good looking one.

Im not trying to start an arguement here, thats only my job at my stratus site. But, i am intrigued by this amzoil filter idea. I dont care, personally what else they make. They can make, and advertise the date rape drug, so long as their filters make more hp in my car. So bill, when i get the CAI, im going to whatever large corporate parts store i can find the filters, but im going to take the cheap filter that will come with my CAI, and match it up to one by either amzoil or K&N. what major chains stock amzoil?

Bill, I agree with you 99%. If I said to anyone I've known, including family members, that I agree with them 100% on anything, I'd be lying. I'm an independent spirit which probably explains my four marriages...but that's another story.

Amway?!?! Don't even wanna go there! Good thing you got out of there!

Good to see that we can discuss this like adults. Like I said, I really like Amsoil lube products and feel they best represent the company. I have no need for the fertiliizer products since I live in a condo complex. I'm on a low-carb diet as well and being monitored by my doctor...she's just recommeded a daily multi vitamin, nothing more, at least for now. I get those at the Fort Sam Houston Commissary for $4 for a 2 month supply...gotta love the military retirement benefits....but then again, look what they're going thru over there....Aim High, Air Force!!!!!

Most major chains don't carry Amsoil unless they are independent franchsies and an Amsoil dealer signed them up as a retail account.

Do you have a link to the dynos your referring to? I use the Flowzair "drop-in" filters. By chance do you have a part number for the specific filter they are using?

BTW if you ordered from Kale via his website, your filter would be shipped directly to your house.

heres what ive been told by a friend of mine. he has a late model toyota truck an hes about to start building it up, possiblt the TuRD supercharger. he said he read that someone took a truck the same as his, and ran a bunch of tests, both power tests and clarity or intake air tests, and the amzoil put out comparable numbers powerwise, and had lower impurities. as you know todd, ive only ever used K&N, but this amzoil thing is new to me. but it doesnt help amzoils cause any that i can walk into any store and buy a K&N, but i have to hunt for the amzoil?
