Check fuse #39 (25amp) in the power distribution center under the hood. If it is blown it is the cause for the dtc. Dodge issued a tsb on this problem and said to replace the condensor fan motor, fan shroud, and flash the pcm if this problem is present. If you just replace the fuse it will probably blow again shortly.

I am new to this forum and am looking for some help with a similar code 1491. My Haynes manual is not much help. My vehicle is a 1999 Plymouth Grand Voyager. The power distribution center under the hood shows no numbers for the relays or fuses; only names imprinted on the cover.

On the Dodge Ram 1500, the fuse was for an Air Conditioner cooler fan motor.

You have ice buildup on the fan shroud, which caused the fan to bind, and the fuse to blow. Your best bet is to replace the fuse, and be done with it. The new engine software program just changes the time when the fan kicks on when it is cold outside, and if your vehicle is out of warranty will not be covered.

A/C, Cooling System - Condenser Fan Inoperative

NUMBER: 08-002-03

GROUP: Electrical

DATE: January 31, 2003

THIS BULLETIN SUPERSEDES TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 08-015-02, DATED SEPTEMBER 2, 2002, WHICH SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM YOUR FILES.

ALL REVISIONS ARE HIGHLIGHTED WITH **ASTERISKS**. THIS REVISES A TYPOGRAPHICAL ERROR IN THE TIME ALLOWANCE SECTION.

SUBJECT:
Condenser Fan Inoperative Due To Open Fuse

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves installing a new condenser fan, shroud and reprogramming the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

MODELS:

2002 DR (Ram Truck)

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:

The condenser fan fuse (# 39) in the power distribution center may open leaving the condenser fan inoperative. This may be caused by a condenser fan with excessive current draw or by water collecting in a trough in the fan shroud and freezing in cold weather, which can prevent the fan from turning. This may illuminate the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL).

DIAGNOSIS:

If the vehicle exhibits the condition, perform the Repair Procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Using the procedures outlined in the 2002 Ram Truck Service Manual, publication number 81-370-02059, with approved A/C refrigerant recovery, recycling, charging equipment, recover the refrigerant from the system.

2. Disconnect the refrigerant lines from the condensers.

3. Remove the condenser/shroud assembly from the vehicle.

4. Remove the condenser from the shroud.

5. Remove the retainer clip from the fan and remove the fan from the fan motor.

6. Remove the motor from the shroud. Retain the attaching screws. Discard the motor and shroud.

7. Install the new motor, p/n 05093760AA, into the new shroud, p/n 05080647AB. Tighten the screws to 7 Nm (60 in. lbs.).

8. Install the fan onto the motor with the retaining clip removed previously.

9. Install the condenser into the shroud.

10. Install the condenser/shroud assembly. Tighten the screws to 10 Nm (90 in. lbs.)

11. Install a new 25 amp fuse into the PDC if this has not been done previously.

12. Charge the A/C system.

13. Connect a battery charger and set as close to a 14 volts charge as possible.

14. Flash the PCM using the MDS2 (Mopar Diagnostic System) and DRBIII(R).

NOTE UE TO THE PCM REPROGRAMMING PROCEDURE, A DTC MAY BE SET IN OTHER MODULES (TCM, BCM, MEC, SKIM, ETC.) WITHIN THE VEHICLE, IF SO EQUIPPED. SOME DTC'S MAY CAUSE THE MIL TO ILLUMINATE. ALL DTC'S RELATE TO A LOSS OF COMMUNICATIONS WITH THE MODULE THAT IS BEING REPROGRAMMED. CHECK ALL MODULES, RECORD THE FAULTS, AND ERASE THESE FAULTS PRIOR TO RETURNING THE VEHICLE TO THE CUSTOMER. ERASE ANY FAULTS IN THE PCM ONLY AFTER ALL OTHER MODULES HAVE HAD THEIR FAULTS ERASED.

NOTE :THE FOLLOWING STEPS ARE REQUIRED BY LAW.
15. Type the necessary information on the "Authorized Software Update Label" p/n 04669020 (Fig. 1). Attach the label to the PCM and/or TCM as necessary and cover the label(s) with the clear plastic overlay.
16. Type the necessary information on the "Authorized Modification Label" p/n 04275086AB and attach near the VECI label (Fig. 2).
