Can an oil pump cause a no spark problem?

I have been working on a dodge intrepid 99 and I have no spark. I have checked EVERY sensor that relates to a "no spark" issue. And I also have the oil light on(on the dash board). I asked a mechanic and he said that the oil pump may be the problem. He said to check the oil pressure to see if its even rising.

Ya, I said this guy is on crack. How does an oil pump relate to a "no spark" issue? they dont. Unless im wrong?

also if an oil pump wasnt working what would be the symptoms?

Perhaps not the pump, but there is probably a low oil pressure switch that interrupts ignition to prevent gross engine failure in the event of a loss of oil pressure.

If the oil pump isn't working, you get very low or no oil pressure. Put a mechanical gauge on and have somebody read it while you crank it over. A few seconds of cranking should result in pressure. If not, figure out why. Sounds like the oilpan is coming off that intrepid soon though.

did you check the crank positioning senser??? i dont know if that will trigger an oil light or not but its definatly a common problem. as far as low oil pressure symtoms, besides an oil light, if your oil pump aint workin your gonna have a whole lotta valve train noise "ticking"

I'm quite certain that low oil pressure and/or an oil pressure light on will not cause a no spark issue.
You checked "every sensor"? Did u check for DTC's, crank sensor, cam sensor, shut-down relay (if it's got one), ignitor/coil pack?
How did u check all the sensors? If you Ohm'd them, that don't mean they are good. Ohms tests suck. You really need a scan tool, check codes, check for rpm's while cranking. (Maybe look at the tach)
Start with the basics, a wiring diagram, check for correct power to the correct places at the correct time.

Oil pressure light? Do a "manual" oil pressure test, with an external gauge, so u can see actual oil pressure. And yes...QUOTE: "if your oil pump aint workin your gonna have a whole lotta valve train noise "ticking" END QUOTE.

Please let us know the outcome?

Oil pump is very unlikely but water pump is very possible. Water pump is driven by timing chain, yes, chain, and if it goes bad it can cause chain to jump time. That results in cam timing being out which cause no spark. Why? cam timing sensor is synchronized with crank senor and if far enough out spark is killed to prevent further damage.
