Default checking as ecu

I hooked an amp meter to a wire under the dash of my 91 dodge caravan with a 3.3, automatic. The wire had a factory lable (ignition feed) when I started the engine with amp meter still connected, the engine died and smoke came rolling out from under the hood by the drivers side front fender. By the time I got the hood open I couldn't see just where the smoke came from, when I first saw the smoke I heard a pop noise from the fender area. Did I fry my ecu, or is there a fuse link some where that got blown.

A meter should not have blown a fusible. How much smoke was there?
