Default 1986 Caravan won't start

This isn't actually my car, it's my neighbors. They are moving, and told me I could have this if I wanted it. My problem is this, the vehicle won't start. It has spark, and within the last year had the timing chain replaced. The engine seems to be running backwards, byt this I mean, I feel air coming out of the carbuerator, and if you hod your hand over the end of the tailpipe, it feels as if the air is being sucked in that way. The car ran when they parked but, but badly, he told me he had to have his foot all the way to the floor for it to start, and had to leave it there for it to even run. The vehicle is in good shape besides, and if it might be something simple, I'd like to keep it, please give me any ideas you might have, thanks a lot, Chuck

Well timing chain replacements have to allign with the cams with the crankshaft. There are marks to indicate the timing positions. If it was done improperly it will not run and you will experience problems like you are stating. On another note, if the timing chain broke while running on older cars it could have bent a valve.
