RE:engine shutting off help please
header problem went away on its own mysteriuoly but i am still having problems with the truck dying at random i had it sitting in my yard running for 45 mins had no problems to for a short ride nothing then i went to fill the tank and it died at the pump as i pulled in i let it sit for a while after pumping and finnaly it started up again a little down the road and it died out again luckly i coasted to a fiends house and let it sit for an hour or soit started up an died the i started it righ up again and it died again the after doing that a few times it started and managed to idle for five mins before dying and it wouldnt start up again so i got it towed back to my house while i drove it i did notice it lacked a lttle power and stuttered if i stepped on it while i worked on the truck it had sat for some time so i did put two bottles of fuel injector cleaner in it i had about half a tank i was told that may have been the cause of the red headers but what is causing the truck to die i had some one put it on a computer and everything checked out ok but it had not died on me for a little while when they checked it and the battery had died from sitting and had to be recharged so no codes would have been saved

RE: RE:engine shutting off help please
I am leaning towardsthe fuel pump going out and not providing enough fuel. There should be a check valve on the passenger side fuel rail where you can hook up a gauge and check the fuel pressure. I beleive it is suppose to be around 49psi but I am not possitive. The fuel pump going out would cause the lack of power and the dying.

RE: RE:engine shutting off help please
This is starting to sound like a fuel problem, eh. You should be able to hear the fuel pump kick in just by turning the key to the "on" position. If you hear the "whir" then it works. Fuel pressure is also affected by the battery, the lower the voltage the lower the pressure. Are you sure someone didn't throw some sand down your gas tank?[]. Do you have a fuel relay? If so, you can try and replace that too.

new fuel pump i check pressure everytime it dies and thats not the problem i just got an obd2 reader and plugged it in it came up with p0138 and p0141 they have to do with the o2 sensors would a bad o2 sensor cause the truck to shut of at random

RE: red headers engine shutting off help please
Are those codes related to the rear o2 sensor? I've never heard of an o2 sensor shutting down a car before, but new technologies are to thank or blame for that I guess. I know a front o2 will cause idle and milage issues, maybe Thump might know. Clogged fuel filter perhaps.

RE: red headers engine shutting off help please
im not sure what o2 sensorit is it said bank 1 sensor 2 the filter is in the tank on the bottom of the pump and thats is a brand new assembly so it shouldnt be clogged after it shuts down i would normally check and relieve pressure in fuel rail and turn key on and recheck and there is plenty of presure but it still wont start

"there is plenty of presure but it still wont start"
when it will not start: does the starter fail to engage, or does it crank the engine, and the engine just doesnt start?
such as: in my dakota, from time to time, when i first turn the key to the start position, i can hear the starter solenoid go "click" but nothing happens (start fails to spin, and the engine never cranks), however, i always get it to start after a few tries.
of course, that would not explain why the truck would die once it is started.
maybe it could be an intermitant problem with the Automatic Shut Down relay (ASD) (if you have one) or Fuel Pump relay?
who knows with the wonderful world of computers. good luck.
