Fan Control only works on high

In my 2001 Durango, the inside fan blower only comes on when it is in the high position. The fan does not blow on the other 3 settings but when it reaches high it blasts you. Is this the switch? If so, is it hard to replace?

Thanks,
Erick

RE: Fan Control only works on high
To slow the speed of your fan they switch on/off resistors, it sounds like this resistor network is bad, which is the whole control unit. Did it slowly go out or all of a sudden?

It is indeed the resistor pack and should be a seperate little module located in the bottom or side of the evaporator case (near blower) on bottom right side of dash, I would expect a a 4 -6 wire connector.

Could be a wire, could be a switch, could be a connector, its pretty hard to diagnose over the net.

[8D]there is a blower motor resistor just below the fan under the dash.
usually accessable after taking out the glove compartment.

RE: Fan Control only works on high
like already said reostat is bad the way they work is for lower speeds they go throuh a resistor or a coil of wire on high the bypass the resistor and feed all 12 volts to motor from different terminal. sometimes mounted in eng. compartment into blower housng and they corrode or burn off just past terminal on board where you cant see until removed
