Default check engine light

Hi everyone I'm new here and now I need some help...I have a 02 Ram 1500, 5 speed manual, 4X4, V8, 4.7L, and my check engine light has come on since my boyfriend decided to go play in the mud with it...Now I'm pretty darn sure that there is just dirt up around the sensor and I would like to know how to just clear the code. A friend told me to disconnect the battery but she drives a Nissan Frontier so I would rather find out from some fellow dodge drivers who would know more about it...I'm going to go hopefully tomorrow if I have the time and have it hooked up to a code reader and find out the actual code but in the meantime if anyone can offer some help it would be greatly appreciated...Sorry so long a msg....Thanks for any help you can offer

whoever scans your code should be able to clear it. Autozone and advanced auto sell some cheap scanners and they also clear the codes. I think the cheapest is about $80 and have some others that are easier to read for a little bit more money. I bought one and have used it a bunch of times. It's paid itself off.

...or you could just have autozone read the CEL for you and clear the codes too...they do it for free.

Sorry Tim, I think that what you said in your first sentence...I think.
