I am interested in towing a travel trailer with my 2002 Quad Ram, I have never towed a travel trailer. I tow a 3000# boat all the time. My question is will this truck tow a 5000# trailer + family(400) + gear(500-700) total approx 6000#? My trruck has the multi transmission-speed aption(45RFE). My window sticker sas it will tow 6400#, but how good? the owners manual says it will tow 5400# so can anyone help me here? Thankyou for any constructive replies...Tomm

what motor do you have? remember those numbers are what it can tow it doesn't mean you'll be happy towing it. so pushing your limits with a small engine and the 4-speed trani, is something I wouldn't want to do. now with a cummins now you have some power and torq.

 

I have a 4.7 motor. Can't believe I forgot to say that. Thankyou for any constructive replies....Tomm
ps if I had a cummins I would have little reason to post this question...

 

the owners manual should give oyu an idea of how much you can tow. of course you want to make sure that your hitch is properly rated as well
