Default RAM Dies out and Won't Start for Hours?

Hi I am new to DF and I have a question about my 98 Ram with a 318, I have recently been having problems with it dying out while driving it and I have replaced the Pick-up coil, Ignition coil, wires and plugs and I have checked fuel pressure it has not thrown an engine light or codes it just dies and won't start back up for at least 3 1/2 to 4 hours it will crank but won't start and then it starts will only run for about 45 minutes then does the same thing....has anyone had this problem?? or does anyone know what might be wrong with my Ram??? Please HELP!!!!! Thanks Eric

Maybe you need a new cat. If it is clogged up it will block the exhaust from leaving the pipes fast enough and then once it backs all the way up to the combustion chamber it will die then you have to wait until the exhaust dissipates. which is a few hours. I have heard that most exhaust places will check your cat for free. Also you may want to put a post up in the ram section you will get more responses. There is not much traffic in general tech.

bring a spray can of carb cleaner or gum cutter with you. when the engines cuts off, take the air inlet tube at the throttle body and spray the cleaner down into the throttle body (a 5 second spray - you can do this by yourself) then try to start the truck. if it starts up or acts like its going to start, you need a fuel pump.

I had the same problem with my 97 Dodge Ram 1500 360. After a week of diagnostic work at the local Dodge dealer it turned out to be the fuel pump. Runs like a champ now.
