electrical problems
After purchasing a battery. tried to start truck..would not stay running, so this guy started my truck and asked me to remove the negative cable while he applied gas.
upon doing so, I accidently dropped negative terminal on the post! Which sent a surge through the system. Since this occurance, if I try to connect terminals, positive & negative the horn sounds and the wipers move even though the switch is off. Right now the truck will start, but will not stay running, have blown 4 or 5 fuses. My question is this where would a guy begin trouble-shooting first. the dealership wants 100.00-400.-- to identify the problem.
Any comments on the seriousness of this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for any and all replies. Bob Vela

RE: electrical problems
of course he's got a ecm. Its that shrivelled up burnt out black thing next to his battery. Problem with stuff like that is that once you let the smoke out of all the components they stop working. If you only new the trouble they goto to get the smoke in them in the first place.
but seriously, what a **** up. I reckon best you not waste your time and order the tow truck now to take your truck to the shop. Problem with creating a dead short (thatxs what you did) direct of the battery is the huge amount of short circuit current generated. you could have anything from a stuffed PCM to melted wires inside wiring looms with every electronic component stuffed. And i thought i was having a bad day.
So like I said, unless your an auto electrician, dont waste your time.

RE: electrical problems
I'd think the dealership would be the only place that could fix it....
Gotta use the DRB3 to find out what modules are working
I worked on a Van once that the guy charged the battery backwards
SMOKED EVERYTHING from the fuel pump, PCM, Ignition module, Alt, Starter.... hell it even smoked his TV and VCR
you better pay the dealer a visit!!!
