Default Cruise Control Issue

During a long drive I recently noticed that while driving with my cruise control the truck drives fine for about 10min, then the tach shows the motor rev up 300-500rpm and then kicks right back down. This happens over and over agian, revving up every 5 seconds. When I turn off the cc and use the gas pedal everything drives perfectly fine. Has anyone else had this problem or an idea of what's wrong?

Thanks

what kind of truck do you have. on the back of the throttle body is a idle air control motor. usually cleaning that will solve your problem. could also be your throtlle position sensor which is on the drivers side of throttle body. your best bet is to go to the parts store and get a new gasket for the throttle body and some throttle body cleaner. go home and take of the throttle body and give it a good cleaning. you should be fine after that.

It's a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 with the 5.9L V8 Auto Trans with 116,000 miles. It was working perfectly fine today, but I'll start by cleaning the throttle body. Thanks.
