Default towing

i do not know if this belong to this section.

i was wondering what would happen if i try to tow a trailer and my tow hitch is about 6 inch higher for the trailer to be level.

is the trailer gonna pop off when hitting a bump?

any ideas?

If the ball is the correct size nothing will happen. Make sure everything is locked down correctly and always use safety chains.

You might drag the tailgate of the traileron every dip in the road!!!
Why not get a drop hitch???

actually i dont have a hitch on the truck. i am using the bumper and putting a hitch ball to it. i am towing a jet ski total weight with trailer maybe only 900Lbs.

do you think the bumper is strong enough?

i am thinking just to put bigger tires on the trailer so it will level with the bumper. 2 new tires is like 40 bucks vs a new drop hitch 130+.

Watercraft trailers tend to be relatively short (from coupler to axle). I think the six inch height difference could put the coupler in a bind, due to the angle of the trailer tongue to the ball. It may be OK when the truck and trailer are level, but what if you have to drive down into a low area? The front of the truck dropping puts even more angle at the coupler.

Maybe I worry too much, but most of the toys I tow are worth enough to play it on the safe side.

Bumper mount drop hitches

Most factory step bumpers are rated at least 350LBS tongue weight and 3500LBS trailer gross weight. Check your owners manual for your particular truck's rating.
