Extended Cranking Problem??
Ok Guys here is my question. Sorry for being soo long. I have an 02 1500 4x4 with the 4.7. About 6 months ago I began having problems starting the engine. It was an extended cranking time of only about 10-15 sec. When it would finally start it acted like it was starved for fuel for just a few seconds then it would run and idle just fine! This was not a consistent problem and only seemed worse on a warmer day. After I let this go on for about a month my malfunction indicator light came on indicating I had a misfire on plug #1. Well I decided to get off my lazy butt and took it to my local dealership. They did a tune up and changed the plugs. I also paid to have a fuel system clean up as well. When they began putting the injectors back together they said the pressure readings were not right and they were able to replace my control (or computer box),or whatever you call it and they thought that might fix the extended cranking. Well it hasnt!!![:@][:@][:@] It still does it however if I start it right back up it usually fires right up but if it sits for a few minutes the extended cranking happens again! ANYONE that could help me I would really appreciate it!!!!!
It could be the fuel system isn't being primed like it should.
Do this: put the key in the igniton, and turn the key forward to where the key would be when the truck is running (but not far enough to engage the starter). From the rear, by the gas tank, you should be able to hear the fuel pump come on momentairily.

When I do that, I believe I hear the fuel pump engage just for a few seconds like always. When the truck finally starts there is a large smell of fuel and the truck does smoke a little.
I had this exact problem with my '02 4.7l Ram.
Mine turned out to be a bad injector. Heard of a few others that have had the same problem.
I replaced all of my injectors. But, during a tune up, I found one plug fuel soaked. I probably could have just replaced that one. But found a good deal on 8 (ebay).
Try this - hold the gas pedal to the floor then try to start it. Mine started quicker with the pedal on the floor. I figure an injector was leaking and the O2 sensors were reading rich - thus no fuel.
Hope this helps.
