Default Open Headers

I have seen a few cars around running what the claim are "open headers". Now is this truely just headers with out amuffler and cat on it or is it just someone taking off the down pipe and running exhaust manifolds? Are there problems with backpressure loss? Can any engine run like that or just high horsepower ones?

Default RE: Open Headers

hey bud... true open headers are simply that. it's just headers bolted on, with no exhaust pipes whatsoever.

here's a pic of open headers on my field car

there aren't really any problems with it, i guess. :]

No problems on older carb cars. Also should only be done with long tube headers. Also if you do it, you always stand a chance of burning up a valve in the higher rpm band.
