Default LOUD EXHAUST

I have a 2005 Dodge Ram. Unfortunately, its not hemi power... its the 4.7 magnum. I may be trading it for a Hemi this month though, hopefully! Anyway, whether I get a hemi or keep the truck I have now, I'm putting custom dual exhausts on it. I want my truck to be as loud as it can possibly be. Are straight pipes the best option, or is there something even louder? Thanks for your help.

Straight pipes will be your loudest option, however it may be more than you're looking for. I'm not trying to tell you want you want, just saying that it will be pretty damn loud, and long trips may be migrane inducing. if you run only a resonator, that is a little bit more subtle (still louder than any muffler) at cruising speeds, but will still be stupid-loud (the good kind) when you give'r.

Ask BlackOnBlackOnBlack about his D. He has the 5.9L with a 3inch straight pipe. I don't know if he's running a cat right now.

another option is to put exhaust cut-outs on. That way you can have all the benefits of a straight pipe, but still run a factory exhaust for when you want somehting quieter.
QTEC has an electric cutout on their site. 200$ for single, 300 for duals

Thanks for the tips guys. I think me and my dad are gonna do it ourselves this week sometime, hopefully... I'll keep my fingers crossed. Still not 100% sure what I'm gonna do,but when we finish I'll see if I can post a sound clip to see what you think.

Thanks

If you run straight pipe, beware of the O2 sensors thatare in the cats.
POORFIX: Simply omitting these will cause your "check enginge" light to come on....and slightly jack up you air/fuel ratio (maybe worse gas mileage...nothing serious) you can easily paint over thelight on the dash...or remove the light itself.

GOOD FIX:You can buy whats called a "test tube" or "resonator" off of ebay.....these are just pieces of pipe with a bung welded infor the O2 sensor (usually run $20-$100). FYI - these flare out and can be mistake for catalytic converters....good if you get pulled over by the cops..or are trying to pass state inspection!!

OK another question... I'm pretty sure I've decided to run true duals (straight back with no crossover or Y pipe), but I'm still not sure whether I want mufflers or not. I have a feeling that without mufflers its gonna sound like crap, so, what do you guys recommend. Around here I've heard flowmaster 40's, glasspacks, and cherry bombs. I want the one that will be the loudest, but still have a nice rumble. ????

straight pipes won't sound like crap

I have a flowmaster Super 40 and it has a great rumble. Mind youthat iscontaining 8cylinders, I dunno what it will sound like with only half the volume going through it. It's loud, but definately not as loud as a straight pipe. Is louder than magnaflows though. MeanGreen has Flowmaster 40's. Check the 1st gen Durango section and message him see how he likes it. Designed to be louder than my super 40. But he has a 5.9l, as opposed 4.7l like us.

I've never been a fan of glass packs, and I havent heard a cherry bomb on anything besides 5.0's

Ok new question. I ended up trading this weekend for a hemi, and it has the 3 year/36,000 mile warranty on it. If I do straight pipes, will that void all my warranty, or just the exhaust part of the warranty? And what are my other options if I don't want to void the warranty? I'm guessing I could get a Borla/Mopar system I found online and that probably wouldn't void the warranty since its approved by Mopar, but they are pretty expensive, so I don't know what to do now.
