Had Magnaflow exhaust installed...
I had the local muffler shop put on a Magnaflow exhaust on my 07' Hemi Durango this week. It is a single in and dual out. They used 2.25' pipes on the dual outs. They said they had to use 2.25' intead of 2.5' because of clearance issues up and over the rear axle. I feel like the 2.25' is 'restricting' the sound and flow of the exhaust. Would 2.5' out have changed the sound at all? When I am at certain cruising speeds on the highway ... like around 55-60 it sounds very 'putt-putty'. I don't know if its just the rpm band I am in or what... I just want to know if the 2.5' inch out pipes would change this at all?
Any ideas or opinions?

About the putt-putty sound, maybe its in the MDS fuel saving mode.<I'm not to sure bout it thou.. but as far as the sound of 2.5 pipe compared to 2.25 pipe in my experiance i find that the larger pipe makes deeper sound, butI no tips effect this alot too. sowat kind of tips did you get? if any.I also know that on my 05 Hemi Ram i rana dual exhaust set up with super 40s and got to much flow and lost mybottom end power so the smaller pipe may actually be helping you there.<<< hope this helps.
I had them put on 2.5 inch tips. They were magna flow tips that beveled down to 2.25 so it was a secure fit on the pipe.
Like I say it sounds great under good throttle... but when I let up in that range of about 55-60 and cruise right in there it sounds kind uv' like a 4 cyclinder, but I'm sure I'm not in MDS mode... at least I dont' think I am.

Actually now when I a set my cruise at 70... my rpms fluctuate from 1900 rpm to 2100 rpm constantly. Is this what you are seeing on your 07' Ram?
I had a magnaflow installed on my old 04 Ram hemi and never experienced anything like this before. I hope it is not robbing me of mpg! Any ideas out there on what is causing this? I don't recall it happening with the factory exhaust installed?

boatbuilder,,
Go to 3rd generation ram topics and look for the thread "2007 Hemi Ram QC MDS shift points. We have had alot of input from others with the same problems. I e-mailed Magnaflow and they said I was the first to ever have this issue. I told them it might not be there problem but there are many others with same problem.
Check it out and good luck.

Thanks for the thread. I checked it out and I am experincing ALL the same issues described in that thread. Looks like I should first try the PCM reset to see if I notice any change.
