Default 1988 318 intake swap

Don't be scared off by my SN, yes it does imply that I have a mustang...but I also have this dodge here too. Hopefully, we can all coexist just like my two domestics do. Now, as for my question. I wanted to pull the CFI fuel injected manifold off this 1988 318 I have and swap in a edelbrock performer intake? Will this work? Can I use the non-EGR version? Anything else about that swap that you could tell me would also be appreciated. Thanks for reading!

moe in wichita ks
i had a 1984 ply gran fury 318 2 bdl carb. it run bad from new after a lot of tekering, and trips to the dealer. finaly figured out the intake manafold had a crack that let the ex gasses in to the intake side. i had a e-brock man. on the shelf, so i put it on. the things to look out for. mounting of a/c compresser, hood celarence on air cleaner. i used a air cleaner of a late 70s big bodydodge 440, note a chrysler air cleaner of 76,77,78 are taller and will not clear. they also take a diff elemnt. some books show the dodge elemnt going into a chrysler by mistake, you canput it in but it will not seal. so ALLWAYS check the acual fit to the air cleaner dont trust the books. you will need 4 barrel cable it isdiff than 2 barrel also the bracket that bolts to the man must also be 4 barrel. on these engines a 4 barrel hook up point is more forward and moreto the left side. so all the stuff must be for a 4 barrel. if you can find one in a salv yard thats a 4 barrel just use all that stuff. but factory4 barrels a hard to find. if the the cable and other linkage is misalinged it could stick open, be sure it moves like the factory ment it to,no binding. before you put the e-brock carb ontake the top off and reajust the flote level to 5/16. this might seam high but it will take the flat spot out. then get there power valve spring set, and put the lightest spring in. then look at the charts they have on the mettering rods. the one they put in has a big diff betwen the power step and the cruse step, you dont want that. find a rod that hasvery little diff from the power stepto the cruse step but is still in the same general range as the one e-brock put in. also DONT use hose to go from the fuel pump to the carb. if you have to spent some money and get a good tube bender and flare tool, and use break line tubing 5/16" dia. and run as much as you can in tubing.ever notice that the factory runs as much as they canin tubing and not hose? the reason is SAFETY. also do NOT use copper, the factory uses steel for a reason, sorry i repeated my self.

Are you just replacing the manifold or going carburetor as well.

It had CFI, but I'm going to convert to an edlebrock performer intake with a 600 cfm edelbrock carb. This is in a '88 B150 full size van. i was also curious what to do about the fuel pump. Does the motor have a block off plate where I could attach a traditional mechanical fuel pump? Is the fuel pump eccentric still in the motor? Can I just use the fuel injection pump with a pressure regulator?

You can use a bypass regulator adjusted to around 5psi and the stock pump.
It is computer controlled so how are you going to deal with the timing, remember the computer can no longer adjust air fuel mixture so it will send the timing crazy.

Yeah I was hoping the ingnition system was seperate from the EFI computer. I wonder if I can get a stand alone module to control the ingnition. I'd hate to have to get a new distributor too.

So I guess a new distributor would be in order. Man this is getting expensive.

You can use an old distributor and ignition module .You can take the module ,plug and harness with the distributor and have a complete ignition .
