Pull the cat+muffler?
I know that i will fail air-care if i remove the cat.
So i would simply put it on for that and take it off after.
Pulling the cat will bring down low-end torque but raise Hi-rpm hp
The main problem is that my engine is supposed to have backpressure
If i take all the restrictions off the exhaust will it destroy the engine.
I plan to run a 2.5 straight pipe off my new 3.0 engine. Is that bad or good??[&:]
I dont care what the cops or air-care think... Will it hurt my engine??
Or simply improove the top end.

If your running 2.5" exhaust on your 3.0L V6 and retaining the exhaust manifolds, then you already have all the back pressure you need. The cats are just a blockage that actually hurts both horsepower and torque. You will probably notice quite a difference with that EPA dung removed.[sm=smiley20.gif]
71RoadRunner,
I drive a 2001 RAM 1500 with a 318. I currently have a flowmaster muffler but I let the CAT on. I do not have to pass air quality inspections where I live. I am wondering if I will have anyproblems if I pull my cat. I know there are Sensors in front of and behind the cat. Will this hurt my engine in any way? Also, will it get a lot louder. Sounding aggressive is one thing but I drive a lot, so I don't want to go deaf. Any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx...

Removing the cat will cause the Check Engine or SES light to come on and stay on. This isn't a problem, except that if something else goes wrong that would turn the Check Engine light on, you won't know it because it will already be on unless you get an O2 sensor simulator. Removing the cat will also make it noticably louder and it may be too much for you, try it and see what you think. If it is too loud, then go get a high flow cat like Dynomaxs' Super Converters. This will tone it down a little while allowing maximum flow and performance with a cat.
My friend got his converter hollowed out. Just with an open flame i think. No check engine light problems. And it made it louder,

What kind of vehicle was it on? Some don't have an O2 sensor in or after the cat. If it does have one, if it works, it will come on soon. A friend of mine did this to his car and it didn't come on right away it took awhile, but it did eventually come on.
