has anyone used one of these?
I've seen these tornado things on the tv and the theory makes sense i guess. I'm wondering if anyone has used one or knows anything about them.

I know of them, but have never had any experience with one. I have heard of one or two people that have them that say they work to increase fuel mileage a little, but until I know the source well, I will stay neutral. The concept sounds good. I don't think it would help a turbocharged car at all, since the turbo spins it already. And if the Tornado is put in in a direction that contradicts the turbos' rotation, then it could actually hurt the performance quite a bit.
I would think that having this "spin" the air is pointless with a fuel injected motor. This can go hand in hand with the throttle body spacer debate.
My personal opinion is until they can prove it works (independant testing - not manufactures claims...always seems to work great for them...LOL) I see it as an obstruction in the air path reducing your flow rate.

Me too, that's why I've never had one. You port and polish like mad to remove obstructions, why would someone voluntarily put an obstruction in. In one way it makes great sense and in another it doesn't, give me the proof as well.
It probably falls in the same category as the $25 "performance module". But I did see them advertised on one of the Sunday a.m. NHRA shows on ESPN.....pretty expensive piece of metal!!!!![&:]
I agree the tornado is BS. I put one of those IAC modules on my car and it does help. not to the 25hp it claims, but it is null and void now that I have my CAI. It does pump more fuel into the motor if you think about it. Now how much the PCM recalculates taking info from the O2 sensor is another story, but just like the tornado it sounds like a great idea. To good to be true probally is $25, 25hp, if HP was that cheap we would all be doin 200MPH.

I have seen someone use one on a mustang.. They do Give you a lot more hp for cheap then anything. My friend is looking into one for his stang. I wouldn;t buy one for my truck but for a normal car I was looking into it... Might be well worth it to check it out.
i had a customer who had one come apart and did some damage to hsi engine. ive also heard about a horror story with a WRX where it got sucked into the turbo and damaged it, but tornado paid for the repairs.
basically...dont waste your money.

The tornado only works with the Areoturbine muffler. The tornado spins the air in a certain direction to fill the cylinder, and the turbine muffler spins it the opposite way to help empty the cylinder after combustion. Make sense?
Now. If you have the hairdryer turbo system just downstream of the tornado, you double it's effects.
Please note that to maximize these mods, you have to run 2 cans of slick 50 in your oil, and add the purple smelling gas additive (inside joke) to a half tank of fuel. Off course now you need to run at least Av-gas or race fuel.
Stop dishin my modds.
