I WANT TO DUMP MY STRAIGHT PIPES AND GET A MUFFLER I WAS THINKING OF EITHER A GLASSPACK OR A 40 SERIES FLOWMASTER ... MY ENGINE IS ONLY A 5.2 BUT I WANT IT TO BE LOUD AN NOT RASPY LIKE STAIGHT PIPES SO MY QUESTION IS WHAT IS THE DIFFERANCE BETWEEN THE TWO IN SOUND AND PERFORMANCE.

RE: WHAT KIND OF MUFFLER
Then you want 40 series Flowmasters. The glasspacks make everything sound like trash to me. I love the Flowmaster sound.[sm=smiley20.gif]

RE: WHAT KIND OF MUFFLER
Some glass packs don't sound to bad at all, but most sound like complete trash. Regardless of the cat, the headers should make a pretty good difference. If you want more performance out of your exhaust just get a good high flow cat. Most good high flow cats will only be robbing you of 1 horsepower where a factory type cat probably robs you of 10-20 horsepower. Gutting the factory cat can and or will trip your check engine light, unless you use a O2 simulator. Due to emissions you would be better off just getting a high flow cat.[sm=smiley2.gif]

RE: WHAT KIND OF MUFFLER
Which 40 series did you get? I had forgotten to mention that there are two different versions, the regular 40 series and the Delta flow 40 series. The Delta flows are only about half as loud as the regular 40 series according to their charts. I've heard people say that they are just a little quieter than the regular 40's, so who knows. Now that you have the mufflers though, the headers will make quite a difference in performance as well as sound. Going with a high flow cat will improve upon both as well.[sm=smiley2.gif]

RE: WHAT KIND OF MUFFLER
The main purpose of raising the rev limiter is to optimize the power band useage by hitting the sweet spot when you shift gears. Sometimes the stock rev limit keeps it from hitting the this sweet spot when gears are changed, you want to shift as close to peak horsepower as possible while having it at the right RPM's to be as close to peak torque as possible when you start off in the next gear after shifting. I haven't seen any case where an engines peak horsepower was beyond the rev limiter, it always falls off before that, so it is not to gain horsepower.[sm=smiley2.gif]

RE: WHAT KIND OF MUFFLER
but do the 5.2's become unstable after 4800RPMS or is that only the 5.9's
