how does a cowl induction hood work cause i find conflicting information some say pressure is increased and forced into the opening some say pressure is reduced and hot air escapes. anyone know the truth?

 

If you're referring back to the old '60s style found on Chevelles, Camaros, and El Caminos to name a few, they used the pressure off the windshield to feed cold air into the motor and I think it worked well (I believe this was a low pressure system). I think what killed it was the onslaught of motor pollution control regs, but in this day and age, I wish the manufacturers would reconsider their views and start placing them back on vehicles.
