94 Jeep Cherokee steering question
I hope somebody has an answer for me but I was wondering if the Steering box for the Cherokee has a preload screw to tighten when the steering get play in it? Yeahs ago I owned a 1967 Mustang that if the steering was loose that I loosen a nut and then took a large screw driver and tighten down the screw then tighen the nut.
Does anybody know if the Jeep is the same can be adjusted

There are two adjustments on steering boxes, the most common is sector/worm preload/lash. If you are sure play is not in linkage, there is a adjustment on top of the box at about the top of where the other end of pitman shaft would be. Usually it has a allen head screw with a nut locking it in place. Break the nut loose and tighten the allen screw 1/4 turn clockwise then relock thenut and drive it and see if it helps any. If you get this too tight it was cause steering bind a bit and feel more vague. The other adjustment is a preload for spool in thebox is best left alone unless you know what you are doing. The rear of box where shaft from steering enters is where it is at and the hole inside of the rear threads in and out and its locked in place with a large washer type nut.
