Default Jeep Grand Cherokee Brakes

I'm looking to buy either a used '04 Special Edition JGC or a new '05 JGC Laredo and have recently heard some unpleasant things about the brakes in the Cherokees. I'm wondering if there are others around that are experiencing the same problems?

Thanks in advance!!!!

It's mainly the rotor warping that I've read about. Different dealers have told me that it was in the 99 to 02 versions and that the issue has been fixed, but I keep finding more and more info out there about the same problems happening up to the 04s.

I've even read things about people filing class action suits against Crhysler over this.

I have a 2000 JGC Ltd. and it used to squeel pretty bad, all I did was get ceramic pads in the front, works great since then!!!!

The WJ-series Grand Cherokee had some brake rotor warping from 1999-2003, but a TSB fix took care of most of the problem. My wife and I had a couple of them, and both got new front pads, rotors, and (redesigned) calipers at approx. 20,000 miles. Both were traded with >60,000 miles and had those pads, rotors, and calipers still on them.

The Mopar rotors and pads are not as bad as some would believe, but Wagner makes some aftermarket stuff that is better. Aside from that, Stillen makes some great brake rotors and pads.

As for the 2005's, the brakes are a lot better all the way around.
