No sound from any but one speaker. Pulled radio from dash. Notice that the wires from the radio for the 'driver's side front door speakers' are NOT the wires that end up on the speaker. The speaker tests OK, but no sound. Smart money - and a look at an unofficial shop manual indicate that there is a 'power amp' between the radio and the speakers.

So far, no problem BUT... Where would this 'power amp' be hiding? Don't relish tearing up the dash etc on a wild goose chase. If anyone out there in Jeep world has a good idea of where to look for the 'power amp', I would be most appreciative.

 

I dont know where the amp would be located on your jeep but on my Durango it is behind the kick panel on the passenger side.

 

check under the right rear seat.

AMPLIFIER
Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.
Disengage the rear seat cushion latch by pulling upward on the release strap. Tilt the seat cushion forward.
Lift the carpeting in the left under-seat area as required to access the amplifier.
Unplug the two wire harness connectors from the amplifier Amplifier Remove/Install
Remove the four screws that secure the amplifier to the floor panel.
Remove the amplifier from the floor panel.
Reverse the removal procedures to install. Tighten the amplifier mounting screws to 2.8 N·m (25 in. lbs
