Default 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee not starting

ok so i just bought a 99 grand Cherokee limited edition for 650.00. i bought it from a friend knowing something is wrong with the motor. it has the 4.7 HO. im new to the jeep section here. im from over in the 2nd gen ram area. so i dont know anything about these 4.7s.

but anyways. the problem is its not starting. it cranks and fires a few times and dies. it sounded like its only running on like half the motor when it started the day i got it. since then it wont fire and run on its own. i thought i might as well check the spark plugs before tearing into the motor. so i pulled them out and they were horrid so i changed them and it still wont run.

if anyone has any info that would be awesome.

I don't know how that's possible, the HO version of the 4.7 wasn't produced until late 2001 and only came in a few, select '01 pilot models, it officially debuted in 2002 when it was the standard engine in the Overland series and was an option in the Limiteds...

But regardless, look at the oil for a sign of coolant, if one side was running and the other was not, I'm betting it overheated at some point and you got a cracked head...
