Jeep 4.7 oil pressure probs
Hi all,
I have a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 4.7 engine. (100k miles).
I'm getting intermittent low oil pressure (check gauges light) while idling at stop lights.
Weird thing is, it only does this sometimes. Sometimes it idles fine with 40 psi, other times it'll drop down to near zero turning on the warning light. I have to put it in neutral and juice the gas a little to get the pressure back up. Sometimes I'll have to bring it up to about 1200 rpm's before the needle will move back up to 40 psi. , and there's about a three or four second, very nerve racking delay before it builds back up. But like I said, sometimes it idles fine with 40 psi.
Is it maybe a bad sending unit (I hope I hope), or is my oil pump about to crap out?
It's not under any warranty so whatever it is, I'll have to foot the bill, unless someone knows of a recall or service bulletin.
Any help would be highly appreciated.
