Default 5.9 to 44re Torque Converter

Hi, I have a 1996 Grand Cherokee that I am trying to swap from a 5.2 to a 5.9. Whoever had the Jeep before me drove the ***** off it and blew the engine. It has the 44re and I was wondering what torque converter would work with the 5.9? Thanks!

The one that's in it will likely work just fine. It'll end up having a slightly higher stall speed, due to the engines additional torque, but, that's about the only difference.

Keep in mind, the 44RE NEVER came behind the 5.9 for a reason. If you drive it hard, don't expect it to last long..... and if it's already been abused..... yeah, that ain't gonna extend it's life expectancy any.

Ok I'll go ahead and just install a shift kit on the 44re to give it a little more of a fighting chance. My plan is just to make it a cheap toy to play around with down in the creek. I really only need 1st and 2nd gear. I'll end up swapping in a 46re after this one decides to kick the bucket. Thank for the response!

Sounds like a good plan.
