Default homemade jeep top holder

yea, so i am from the ram 2nd gen part of this forum but i have been driving my buddies 04 wrangler and i want to take the top off, the only problem being that the top stands are 350 bucks!

has anyone made one of these stands out of some pvc piping? i understand the top weighs like 200 lbs??
or is this just one of those things i should pay the money for and do it right??

A few people I know have pulley systems in their garage or carport to assist with the lifting and storage.
Sure makes it easier to do when you are by yourself.

i knew a guy that put a ring on his top so he could lift it with a pully and just back out from under it

Granted, my jeep was a 93, but I use to take the top off all the time by myself, I wouldn't think it weighed 200lbs, although it isn't light. As for storage, I just used some vehicle stands to keep it off the ground. Pulley system would have been nice, but I didn't have a garage.

i was reading some site, graned they were trying to sell me an expensive top holder, but they said that flexing with age and wear might become an issue??

we can get the top off ok enough but storage is my main concern and we have to park in the garage so hanging the top form the ceiling would not work either. thanks for the thoughts.

My friend's 04 (or 05??) Rubicon Hard top is on a pair of 2x4s in my back yard, I guess he doesn't think flexing and warping is a problem. Of course its only there for a few months.
