Default 2007 Wrangler 3.8

I have a Tj wrangler and was looking maybe to get a new 2007, but I am a little unsure about the 3.8 engine. I was wondering if anyone knew if they might be putting the 4.0 v6 out of the nitro in it because I would rather wait for that than settle for the 3.8. Also I was wondering how the 3.8 might perform in the wrangler being that it is a higher revving minivan engine. Thanks to anyone that can shed some light on this for me.

I saw a 07 today for the first time it was a 4 door and very sharp I like it a lot . I am like you I have some concerns about the 3.8 motor . I wish that they would build one with the 4 cylinder diesel that they have been putting in the liberty.

I doubt they will offer the 4.0L from the Nitro. The Liberty will get it first before the Wrangler. If you really don't want a higher revving engine, then the 4.0L is the wrong engine for you. The 4.0L produces 255 hp (190 kW) at 5,800 rpm and 265 lb.-ft. torque (360 N•m) at 4,200 rpm vs. the 3.8L produces 205 hp (153 kW) @ 5,200 rpm (53.9 hp/L) 240 lb.-ft. (325 N•m) @ 4,000 rpm.

The 4.0L is based on the 3.8L, it just has four valves per cylinder is the only difference. I agree that the AMC 4.0L I6 engine was better suited with this vehicle, but I think they dropped it due to emission laws. The 3.8L is a reliable engine and it is lighter, more powerful and produces a little more torque (at a higher rpm). The fuel economy is better on the 3.8L as well.

The 4 cylinder diesel will not be offered because it won't pass the new emission standards for diesels. That is why they dropped it out of the Liberty. I agree they should offer a diesel in it. The massive low end torque would be really nice as well as the fuel mileage.

I usually wait two or three years before buying a new design. It lets the aftermarket parts build up and helps get the bugs out. I'm really liking the 4 door but still unsure of the new engine. I figure in 3 or 4 years, my wife will get the 4 door and I'll stick with my trusty Unlimited. A whole family of Wranglers. Almost brings a tear to my eye.....

The 3.8L is a proven design that has been around since 1991. It is a larger version of the 3.3L V6, an engine I have seen hit beyond 200,000 miles more times than I can count. It's a good engine. I agree though in your theory of waiting a few years before buying the redesigned models. It sometimes takes 2-3 years to get all the major flaws out of new or refreshed designs.

Hey Guys
It's great to hear about your interest in the 2007 Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited! Has anyone test drove one yet?

Unfortunately, at this time, DaimlerChrysler has not released any plans that indicate the future production of the Jeep Wrangler with the option of the 2.8L Common Rail Diesel engine for the North American market. However, with constantly shifting market trends I would hesitate to discount the possibility of new products on the horizon.

The jeep website will update you with any new news that Daimler Chrysler comes out with regarding diesel engines.

Keep me posted with your thoughts, and if anyone has test drove the new Wranglers.

Thanks guys.

Just thought I would mention...living in the Metro Detroit area I have already seen 3 or 4 different Wranglers (with manufacturer plates of course) with the CRD badge on them

both two door and four door unlmited models

Hey guys

D_X, regarding Wranglers with CRD engines, they are for exporting. There are different emission standards between the United States and the European market. Therefore, the diesel vehicles that are produced are made specifically to meet European standards.

Hope that helps

I want the option of either a 5.7 Hemi, or that 5-cyl diesel offered in the Sprinter. And I want them in the 2-door.
