shadow turbo probs
I'm looking at an 86 shadow but it has a few problems and I was hoping you guys could give me some idea of what is wrong with it.
1) The lifters tick until it warms up.
2) It won't rev past 3k rpms.
What can cause these things and how much would it cost to fix them?
thanx,
azret

The 2.2 and 2.5 are known to be fairly noisy and they have a high end tick. It is either the lifters or the fuel injectors as both can make a ticking sound. The 3K RPM limit sounds like the turbo might be shot, does it boost good? Is their any smoke (white or blue in color) coming out of the exhaust after the engine is at operating temperature? Try checking the PCM (computer) for trouble codes, for more info on how to do this and how to read the codes go here: http://www.troublecodes.net/chrysler
It will rev to the redline whether the turbo is good or not. The tick could possibly be solved by putting a quart of tranny fluid in and running it for 100 miles and then changing the oil (little DSM trick). I would check timing - base timing is listed on the underside of the hood. Should be 8 degrees I believe. Also I dont think there were shadows made in 86 - only 87-95. Correct me if I'm wrong - I'd like to see an 86 Shadow!
Either problem is likely cheap, so dont get too worried.
