Default 93 Shadow 2.5 acceleration question

Hey everyone,
just recently got a 93 shadow had for about a week now. I am good with fixing things but this is my first car, always worked on friends. Two things have come up and got me curious. Any help would be greatful. The vehicle has the 2.5L I4 automatic

1) RPM's are high when the vehicle is shifting from 1st to 2nd and does it mainly on hills (I live on the north shore in Vancouver, roads like San Fransico in some areas). the tranny likes to shift from 2nd to 3rd around 55Kph. Just wondering if this is normal? city driving, i either have to speed up to 55KPH to get into 3rd or sit in 2nd at a high RPM. Other than that, the tranny shifts smoothly and downshifts like a standard.

2) below 10KPH, my front left wheel is giving a squeking noise and its only noticable in an enclosed area (undergrounds, parking lots) where the sound can bounce/reflect back. any idea of what it could be? should i be worried?

Thanx in advance for any help.

Today, i am installing new speakers and taking some pics before the restoring starts. The website will be up soon for people to watch the progress, add any messages and soon to have a comprehnesive resource links page for all shadow info and sites

BTW i am a computer programmer/all-round tech by trade (bad back forced me out of mechanics) and information-junkie so the website is a way for me to have some fun, showcase my free car at the same time and provide an additional shadow resource on the net. I may not be able to answer any car related problems, but if the computer is involved, i can help u with that and yes i realize you wouldn't be in this post for computer issues but hey, ya never know, share the knowledge , just email me or leave a message

The car should upshift, and not sit and run a high RPM. Not sure what the problem with that might be but mine doesnt do it like that..lol. Mine shifts into second at around 45mph (if im on it hard) otherwise it will shift into 3rd long before that. The sqeeking noise is more than likely the front brake pads going out, the wearbar on them is more than likely rubbing the rotar (to let you know they are goin out/bad).

No problem, its what we do here. Where abouts you from? Also if you do the brakes yourself (or have a buddy do em) its usually alot cheaper (just my advice/opinion). I do all the work to my car myself or with my dads help only thing I will pay for is alignment and tire balancing.

hey Bassboy,
I up in North Vancouver, BC, CANADA aka the wet coast. I rust more than tan here. As for the brakes, i have a buddy who is a mechanic for toyota who is going to helping me (he's got a 91 CRX in great shape). I am originally from victoria and a good 80%+ of my friends are mechanics so i have always helped them and them help me. I am car and engine buff and have been trained on engine repair from 2-4 stroke small engines up to aircraft engines (including jet....raw power) but due to a back injury is why i switched careers.
This shadow is my first car where i don't have to harrass my friends to fix there car or something just to get under the hood. I will be fixing the brakes this weekend. recommend any good brake parts for the shadow? are there any engine or car parts you have come across that work great for shadows? any known lemon parts? a guy told me yesterday when working on the car that he used to have one and the only problem he mentioned is they are prone to blown head gaskets. fact or fiction?

What about you bassboy? where you at? what do you do when not working on your ride? you'll see i'll be online often as i work on-call from home.
anyways, till next post
cheers

Not a bad lookin ride...one thing I really dislike is the woodgrain tho lol it just dont look right in a shadow. Its true about the head gaskets, they are prone to blowing (more in the Turbo engines than the N/A's) Have to do the one on my 91 Shadow that I bought for my fiance. As for parts I couldnt tell you too much I just buy whats cheap when I need it. Im from Michigan, Currently laid off (I work at a small factory making bird feeders/houses).

d'all good, i'm going to ditch the wood grain, looks like it belongs in a caddy or something, not a dodge. gonna pick a new interior color soon, maybe grey or black or combo.

That sucks about being laid off, i've been off work since January but due to my back. It is better now but no where close to 100%, but i need to get back to work, it's driving me nuts... i find out wednesday if i get to go back.
until then, i got time to work on the car [8D] Its just a matter of how much my fiance is willing to let me do to it; getting married in july.... for the amount were spending for that afternoon...this car could fly...

Do you know what the biggest rims that can fit without affecting steering? i've seen 17's and 18's on peeps shadows....

From what I have heard and looked into, without any mods you can fit 17's and with some minor mods you can fit 18's.
