87 Aries super fast idle
Hi fellow.... fellows.
I have a 1987 Dodge Aries. It had been working perfectly well until just recently. The idle speed has become very very fast and it seems to get faster every time I start the car. The car has always been a easy starting car even in cold weather, I rarely had to pump the peddle to get it started. But now it has become quite ridiculous as it can cruise along at 25 mph without a touch of the pedal. Each time I start it, the engine sounds as if its about to take off.
I did some research and found that my fuel injection engine does not have a idle speed adjuster, its just run by computer sensors (right?). So, I pulled up that site for dodge computer fault codes and headed for the car. I keep getting 3 blinks then 5 blinks which according to the chart is:
35 Cooling fan relay circuit open or shorted
is this my problem? I really need to find away to get this adjusted before something breaks.
any help will be greatly appreciated. thank you in advance,
Tucker

The throttle position sensor is usually the culprit with idle speed problems, but there are several things that could cause it. The cooling fan relay circuit will not have any effect on the engine idle. Try cleaning the throttle body and it's parts with carb and choke cleaner to remove any gunk and debris, something could be getting stuck by build up causing the high idle. While it's running, try operating the throttle by hand and try closing it, it may be getting stuck part way open.
Your not supose to pump the gas pedal on a fuel injected car, it should start fine without touching the gas pedal.
