Default 1993 Shadow - Rear Coil Spring Seat

Good day,

I've just posed another question about this car in this section as well, however, this one is a much different flavour, so I figured I'd put in a different thread.

I am currently fighting (and losing) the battle with rust on my Shadow. However, I need to keep this car going for at least another year. The two (I'd call them mounts?) at the bottom of my rear coil springs are rusting to the point that they are severely cracked and in serious need of repair. However, I do not know if there would be enough good metal left on these brackets to weld plates into them.

So, my question is, is it possible to buy these mounts and just cut the old ones off, to be replaced with new? Where would one locate such a part?

I have been looking online and haven't really found anything. Would these need to be made up by a metal shop?

I'd really appreciate some help!

Thanks

You may to try calling junk yards in the S.W. US there are tons of rust free cars. Being cars there dont rust they last longer so there might be a couple at a yard.

The only things I have been able to locate so far have been either an entire brand new axle from the dealer ($$$$$$$$!!) or a scrapped axle at a local scrap yard. ($100 - Not as expensive but it looks like it had been in an accident and I would need to cut the brackets off.) I think I'm going to have to have someone have a look underneath there to see if there's enough good metal left to attempt a repair.

A swap of an entire axle is not a job I really want to undertake with this car, as switching over hubs and things will NOT be easy, along with brake lines, etc..

I live in NS, and it was the same story with my 93 Shadow, I replaced the rockers almost every year, and the "dog legs". Friggen road salt.

Rockers every year!? I'm planning on doing mine in the spring (If I'm going to keep the car, first time they'll have been done since it's been built) and they had better last for the rest of its lifespan!

Speaking of which, I wonder what kind of trouble it is to make a car such as this pass inspection in Ontario?

My step-dad's 1990 Mercury met the same fate. Here, cars rust, sometimes that bad, but not as often. There is a junkyard here that has tons of RARE cars-including all the hard to find 90s mopar stuff a guy can ask for-if you want, I can PM you their number.

Where are you located? I might be interested in a couple items, but shipping could be a big factor..

Feel free to PM.

I don't have a PM from you in my inbox, but thanks for the concern and follow-up!

I ended up just having plates bent and welded in for quite a reasonable price. (Sub 150 dollars!)
However, I now also have crack in the frame up front. (Lower control arm mount).
It's MIG welded right now, but I don't know how long it's going to last. Looks like this car's coming off the road either the spring or the fall, depending on how well it holds up. Gonna try not to spend too much more money on it.
