Great suggestion. I keep a 1/2 drive standard socket set and ratchet in mine, too. (Beats the hell out of a tire iron any day.)

I also usually keep a small tool box in my trunk too, never know when you might need it. Saved my *** more than once.

Even if you decide not to keep tools in the car, a membership to AAA might be a good idea, especially with all of us driving older cars, never know what can happen, and it usually happens as far away from home as possible.

Well I'm not driving an older car anymore. But I'm trying to find one. (I MISS my old '86 Sundance 2.2 Turbo.... she was a good car). By god if I find one for a good price you better believe I'm going to jump on it! lol

Get one of those portable garages. basically a car sized tent and a bullet heater As for not having tools with you... WHAT were you THINKING?!?!?! I actually have a small emergency kit with the jumper cables, hazard triangle, compressor, flashlight, first aid kit, tow rope and whatnot and I keep a small basic tool kit in there too (Pliers, screwdrivers, hex set, cresent wrench you know the basics). Might think about getting one next time you go to take a road trip
LOL, yeah, I know. I wasn't thinking. 99% of the time I *do* carry a tool box with most my tools with me when I'm on a road trip.

In fact I try to keep spare parts in my trunk just in case- set of spark plugs, spark plug wires, spare battery, juper cables, belt, plus 2 gallons of coolant, 1 gallon atf+4, .5 gallons of oil, 1 gallon washer fluid, plus some wire cutters, multimeter, wire, duct tape, electrical tape and fuses.

In fact since my car has so much stuff different-from-stock now, and only getting more so- I am building my own FSM to print out, put in a binder, and keep in the car under the seat so I always have all the instructions, diagram, etc for everything in the car, all in one place, where I may need it- that way, no chasing around between 4 FSM volumes, mountains of lose paperwork for varrious addons, no running into my computer for stuff like the "pinout to a 1991 AA digital overhead console", etc.

But I have learned one thing:

AAA is your friend!
