Default Shadow headlights

Well, I just got back from town, it was pretty dark both ways to and from, and I noticed just how dim my Shadow's headlights are, anybody got the same problem with their Shadow?

Do you have the plastic covers for your lights? If so they might be chalked or oxidized, thus dimming your lights. I'd put some glass sealed beams in there and I bet you'll notice some improvment.

That, or you can try to clean the plastic regularly and put stronger bulbs in.

Yeah, I used "Comet" with water to clean the plastic lenses this morning, it worked like a dream, they're as clear as new, but like you said I know that wont last long. But do you mean replacing the plastic lenses with glass lenses?

The sealed beam lights I'm talking about are sometimes marketed as "Euro-style", and instead of the plastic cover that gets murky, these are glass and you have to replace the whole assembly instead of just the bulb.

Ok, I see. Well I was looking in at Canadian Tire, they got those new Sylvania Silverstar lights, they're supposed to be really really bright, but they costs around $30 a bulb, I'am not sure wether to get those or not, because the highlights right now, are so dim, I can't see anything, I can see the road about 4-5 feet ahead lit up, and thats it, even with high beams and fog lights. And especially last night, it was raining, and the glare off other cars didn't help, I nearly took it off the road a few times, and I just got the thing! LOL

Yeah, sealed beams are more expensive because when one goes out you have to replace the whole assembly, but for the most part they last longer than replacment bulbs (because they're sealed and don't get moisture in them).

I just replaced one in my Horizon and it ran me about $21.

It's a saftey issue, so in my opinion it's well worth the money.

Also... Make sure your lights are aligned properly, especially if you get the bright ones. I think I speak for all drivers when I say that it's really annoying (and unsafe) to have misaligned lights.

Hey, well I appreciate the info! its helped me understand this stuff alot more. I went to Home Hardware today, and picked up some Sylvania 9004 "Xtra Vision" I think they where called, for my car, they were around $12.99. I have'nt tryed them yet, waitin for dark to come, but I hope they help alot, the ones that where on it were Sylvania 9004, but they where the cheapest ones you could get in at Home Hardware.

The lights I just bought, had a thing on the package that said they where %20 brighter, so I went for them. And I really hate that when the headlights are'nt aligned right, that happened last night, I nearly went in the ditch, do you know how to align the headlights?

Somewhat. I had mine aligned when I took it into the shop for some repairs, but from what I understand, it's simple as tightening or loosening a screw or two.

Look in your owners' manual or online and it should give you the diagrams for the adjustment.

Well I just got back from checkin out my friends new car (1985 Chrysler New Yorker, 2.2L Turbo) and I drove the car home in the dark.
Let me tell you those new light bulbs made some different, we have a 01' Chevy Venture, and the new lights on the Shadow are just as good as it!
