Default Never again.

This car has been a complete and total nightmare, I dont have the transmission yet, the guy keeps tellin me to call next week (been sayin that for 3 weeks now) and he said it'll cost around $500 to put another transmission in. Never again will I buy a Shadow, I really dont trust these things, it wont even go into 3rd gear now, just got 1 and 2, a Cadillac gets better gas mileage then me right now.

so just buy a damned tranny and swap it, you can get one from a junkyard CHEAP. I have had 3 shadows and all but 1 has been reliable, the one had internal motor problems when i bought it that i didnt know about.

I dont know, I dont think when you go to buy a vehicle, that you'd think it would break after only 150 000km, dont make sense! I do have a transmission that is free, but it has yet to be put in, and I bet that will go in no time flat.

It might be just 150,000 miles but its still over 13 years old. Nothing lasts forever.

Yea no doubt, I threw a tranny this year and you dont see me complaining, i took the trans out of my other car that was a 91 and had over 167k miles on it! So dont judge a car on just 1 trans going. My friend had a 99 neon and the trans in it went out @ 67k miles.

You all got good points, but still, they should be just a bit better built, cars from the 60's and 70's where tanks, you rarely see them lettin you down after a few hundred thousand kilometres, we had a Ford Aerostar van, lasted my parents 300,000KM and nothing needed replacing expect from a part in the radiator (that was the major repair).

an automatic trans is only designed to last a hundred or two thousand miles.

Even a 60s muscle car, the auto trans wont last you forever. Stuff like the clutches wear out and they didnt even have the kelvar based clutches that we have today to make thing last even longer.
