Default Stoplight Madness...

Hey, I was wondering if any one wanted to try this one out. My car is an '86 Dodge 600 and whenever I am waiting at a stoplight/sitting still for more than a minute with the car running it slowly starts to heat up. It goes past the middle marker if only a little bit. Then when I start driving again, it slowly cools down. Also while I'm sitting still or slowing down to do so, the engine kinda thumps. It's not anything hitting against anything else so far as I can tell, it's just the natural hum of the engine gets... agitated for lack of a better word and thumps/sputters.

-The coolant is full and not going down
-I replaced the temp coolant sensor
-I don't see anything stuck in the radiator (Like those fuzzy seeds)
-The fan works

I do have an oil leak but I'm only losing about a quart a month so it's nothing serious. The leak is in a valve cover gasket and there's one in the pan I think. I sure hope someone out there knows what to do! I'm stumped! Thanks everyone!

Did you try a new thermostat?
If your moving and the engine is not as hot as when you stop. Then the themo is'nt working right. Start small and work up. (cheaper that way)
Sputter might be a bad fuel filter or pump. keep it above 1000rpm at the "lights".

I just bought a Thermostat. I'm going to attempt to put it in some time soon. I also got some new spark plugs, spark plug wires, valve cover gasket, and a few other things. Keep your fingers crossed!!

Heh... heh... heh... My car is being evil. I put all those things in the car and now it still runs like crap. When I back out of the driveway or anywhere else, it sputters like it wants to die out, and sometimes it does. I'm so stumped and I don't know what to do.

Your car is throttle body fuel injected and not multi-point fuel injected isn't it? Throttle body fuel injection is pure junk and they always take a dump on you, you might want to check it out as your possible problem.

Now the poor beast is dying out in semi chilly weather and taking a few minutes to start up again. I've got several votes for the fuel pump. Do you really think the TBI might be the problem for all of this? The shop it's at won't be able to diagnose her unless she doesn't want to start when they're testing her. Problem is it's kinda rare that she'll do that for them. ty all
